DR. HABIB JAAFAR

Dr. Habib Jaafar is a member of the Supervisory Board of the Lebanon Dialogue Initiative. He was born in 1955 in Kano, Nigeria and studied at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, from which he graduated with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry. He later moved to the US to pursue a B.S. in Pharmacy at the University of Houston, Texas, after which he travelled to the United Kingdom to study for a Ph.D in Arab History at the American University of London. He started working in 1983 in his family textile industries in Kano, Nigeria, but later ventured into different lines of business such as food and plastic industry, real estate development, hospitality, and construction industries. Dr. Jaafar is an active member in many charitable and social organizations, both in Nigeria and in Lebanon. He is the Chairman of Everest Sterling Limited, United Integrated Construction Limited, and many other companies, and the Vice Chairman of the Kano Lebanon School’s Board of Governors and of Holborn Nigeria Limited. Dr. Jaafar also occupies the position of Executive Chairman of the Dar Foundation, Beirut, Lebanon, and is a member of the Development Team of the Day Waterman College, Abeokute, Nigeria, and of the Arther Mbanefo Digital Research Center at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Moreover, he sits on several boards including the Lebanon Pharmacy Board and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, and is a member of Elion House Limited, ABC Polymers Limited, and Cedar Trust Holding. He is fluent in both English and Arabic, and is married with two children: Sara and Bassel.
