H.E. PROFESSOR KHALIL KARAM (Lebanon)

His Excellency Professor Khalil Karam is the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Lebanon to UNESCO in Paris. He studied at the Université Saint-Joseph (USJ) in Lebanon and at the Université Paris VI, France. He served as Treasurer and later as Vice-President for the National Lebanese Commission, Member of the Committee on Conventions and Recommendations, Member of the Executive Council, and Member of the UNESCO Working Group on Multilingualism. He was also Member of the Administrative Council of l’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). He held several functions at USJ, including Vice-Rector for Development, International Relations Delegate, and Director of the Japanese Academic Center (CAJAP). Karam was the Personal Representative of the President of the Republic of Lebanon before the International Organization of La Francophonie (IOF) and Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the organization to the United Arab Emirates on issues related to multilingualism in the “International Agency Conference on Renewable Energies.” He was the Secretary-General of the Maronite League. He also served as Chairman of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors at UNESCO (2015). He currently serves as Chairman of the Arab Group at UNESCO (2017). In 2009, the Republic of France awarded him the title and rank of ‘Officier de la Légion d’Honneur’.
